A nice and plump avian pedestrian enjoys a little fruit cup, while nikaj_online’s ever-vigilant cat Tobias contemplates an afternoon meal of his own. Not to worry—Ramon says “the bird was saved……;).” But Tobias can be very quick; tinier playmates sometimes aren’t so lucky…..:(

How cute is that doggie in the window?! This beautiful master-takes-after-his-dog shot by oriol_n today triggered a flood of memories of a lot of other great canine pictures of Fotolog past, and inspired me to search around for more, shall we say… bark-seat drivers? (Sorry.) Here are some of the best. (Remember: the safest and smartest way for your pets to travel with you is in properly sized, padded, and ventilated carriers, solidly secured in the back seat. There are also some good pet safety harnesses, which are alternatives for large dogs.)

It’s been a nice surprise to see lots of stunning, stately, sweet as can be giraffes rearing their graceful heads all over Fotolog in recent days. The tallest land-living species were once thought to be mute: they rarely bleat or snort. But new research has discovered that, like elephants and whales, giraffes very likely make and receive communications via infrasound, at frequencies too low to be detected by the human ear. This Nature documentary tells all about it—highly recommended. As is saying, Hello, how’s the weather up there? to these lovelies.

Paging Doctor Dolittle! If you could talk to the animals, just imagine it, gabbing with a goose in goosinese! In the past few days, scads of burbling birds, conversing cats, declaiming dogs, and gossiping geese have popped up on the F’log, apparently eager to have their say. Mop is a beautiful black-and-white tiger kitty from Tokyo. His little boy is named Otoe, and they were early Fotologgers and had a lot of fun together and were the cutest ever.
Mop only posts very sporadically, so it’s always a treat when he comes back to play. But it’s a brand new year, and maybe Mop will hang out more. Happy New Year Mop and Otoe!
