Well that was an eventful weekend. Happy Year of the Pig! Or Fire Boar, to be precise. [Late update: Well, let’s just get totally technical about it: this is the Year of the Golden Pig, which apparently only comes around every 60 or 600 years, depending on your astrologer.] Those born in the year of the Boar are said to be honest, modest, tolerant, peaceful, and deceptively strong. Saturday was the first day of the Chinese lunar calendar, and was celebrated worldwide with fireworks and firecrackers, wearing new clothes, especially red ones, New Year’s Eve reunion dinners of chicken, fish, and dumplings, and gifts of red packets containing cash and coins, always adding up to an even number. This spring festival continues for fifteen days, and culminates in the Lantern Festival.

Saturday also gave us another reason to celebrate, and give thanks: on February 18 around 10:30am EST, the number of photos uploaded to Fotolog passed the 200 million mark. For a photosharing community that was born almost five years ago in a couple of New York City living rooms, it’s a pretty neat milestone to contemplate. Of course, it couldn’t have happened without you, far-flung Fotologgers from every country on earth, and we want to sincerely thank you, one and all.
So… MERCI BEAUCOUP. DANKE SCHÖN. OBRIGADO, OBRIGADA. GRACIAS. GRAZIE. ARIGATO. TACK SÅ MYCKET. TODA.
TUSEN TAKK. BEDANKT. SHUKRIYA. SPASIBO. DZIEKUJE. KOMAPSUMNIDA. KIITOS. XIE XIE. THANK YOU!
