While cruising around the F’log the other night I came across a great, tiny set of photos taken from a moving car, by cjshanks. Her Recent Photos left me wanting a lot more, but that’s all there were. (Fortunately, there are some more from this series, at her personal site. Post more on Fotolog, cjshanks!) This then got me thinking back to some of the great moving pictures I’ve seen posted here, and I went searching for them again. I found just a few, but please add to the collection if you want.
What I love about shooting from a car or train are the limitations that come into play: you usually can’t have (and don’t want) everything in sharp focus, and your composition owes as much to chance as it does to design. The results can be disappointing, but when you hit it right, as these Fotologgers do regularly, they are exhilarating. For me, all of these pictures get at a truth we tend to ignore: that despite our desire for some semblance of control and security, our paths more often than not take us to the one place that lies between the poles of stability and impermanence. It’s called life.

Some of these photos are relatively well done but you can easily see it’s an amateur. Anyway they’re pretty cool, and the series has the name of the best Rush album :D

Andrew thanks for writing this daily about my work! I’m so happy you enjoyed them so much. I am working on my professional website at the moment (I’ll update when its done) and do plan on posting more to fotolog.
