I know you’re really busy, but have you noticed the little orange icon and link below everyone’s Recent Photos? Hallelujah, RSS feeds are here. “Cool,” you say, “but… what are you talking about?” Well, for those of you who haven’t explored them yet, an RSS feed—RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication—is a tool you can use to be alerted to new content appearing on Web sites, blogs, and now, Fotolog. So if you’re online working on ten different things, with no time to surf Fotolog, you can still check your RSS feeds, which update automatically when new photos are posted. Your Fotolog RSS feeds could essentially become a brand-new F/F list, one you can see without even being on Fotolog. (You can also add your Friends and Favorites list as a feed, allowing you to see the six most recent F/Fs, just like on your Fotolog page.)
You can use Fotolog’s RSS feed in two ways.
1. The first is to download an RSS feed reader, and install it on your computer. You’ll find lists of compatible feed readers on the “Subscribe to” page:
With a feed reader you can create a long list of any sites and pages you want to keep an eye on. You can then check your RSS feeds many times a day, relieving the need to actually go surfing for the things you look at daily.
Here’s a screen grab of my feed reader, called Sage, with some Fotologgers added: meadows, ewolman, grammarpuss, fotologcto, and jkh_22 (The ID that initially shows up is the Title of the page, not the Fotologger’s name):
(Hint: when you’re on a Fotolog page, you can click your feed reader’s ‘Discover Feed’ button and add that page directly, without clicking on that Fotologger’s ‘Subscribe to’ icon.)
My Sage reader lets me know if new content has been posted by showing a little red asterisk icon and bold titles.
So then when I click on one of my feeds, like the group log grammarpuss, here’s a glimpse of what I see:
The 6 most recent thumbnails appear, with captions and the date the photo was posted. Click on any thumbnail or title, and you go directly to that photo and guestbook on Fotolog.
2. The second way to track new photos via RSS is to add a Live Bookmark directly to your browser. To do that, you click on the ‘Subscribe to’ icon, then click on the RSS 2.0 format link:
This prompts a window where you can add the Live Bookmark to your Bookmarks Menu or Toolbar:
That Bookmark will always show the caption (or date posted) of the 6 most recent photos that Fotologger has uploaded:

And also, an off topic suggestion… Fotolog is about photoblogging, so remember the official Fotolog’s fotolog, a very important news place!
The blog is pretty and a very nice idea, but IMHO at this community it’s more important to keep alive the fotolog in first place and then the blog…
